Oryzae Amazake

Oryzae Amazake - Fermented Rice Drink

Oryzae Amazake

The Ancient Japanese Superdrink

Amazake has been a staple in Japanese households for centuries. The sweet rice beverage is made by fermenting rice with Oryzae, a type of Aspergillus fungus. This fermentation process breaks down the starch in the rice, making it more easily digestible and providing a range of health benefits. Amazake is rich in vitamins, minerals, and amino acids, and is said to boost energy levels and improve digestion. It's also thought to have anti-inflammatory properties and to be beneficial for skin and hair health.

Dreaming of gentler life in New Zealand

Manabu and Hitomi originally moved to New Zealand from Japan more than 21 years ago, in search of a slower pace of life. And what better place to find that than on a rural Canterbury dairy farm? They instantly fell in love with the country, with its stunning natural scenery and delicious artisan foods. After 13 years on the farm, they decided to move to Nelson, where they now run an Oryzae Amazake business. They still love it just as much as they did when they first arrived!

Next time you’re at the market, why not give amazake a try? You may just discover a new favourite beverage!
